Open world crime games

The Mafia series is a collection of games that follows different protagonists as they rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld and fall through them. The first game follows Tommy Angelo who finds himself caught between two warring mafia families. The second follows Vito Scaletta as he tries to repay his father's debt, and Mafia III follows Lincoln Clay on his quest for revenge against a mob family.

Each game has an open world scattered with weapons they can collect. True Crime: Streets of LA came out in Players follow the story of Nicholas Kang, an LA police officer who investigates a case on bombings in Chinatown. Kang is a tenacious cop and players can play him as either a "Good Cop" or a "Bad Cop" with the choices they make.

Arresting criminals and taking them down non-lethal gives Kang "Good Cop" points and using lethal force and killing civilians gives him Bad Cop points. The amount of points a player gets in either meter determines the ending they get. The Saints Row series is a collection of four games. Out of the crime games on this list, Saints Row is the most humorous one as the several of the plot points are written to be funny like the alien invasion in Saints Row IV.

In the first game, players join the 3rd Street Saints gang and work to take out the rival gangs in the city. The second one has them fight all-new rivals and the third has them become a major crime group. Along with fighting aliens, the fourth Saints Row has the player become the President. Of course, since they are a bit older, they might not have all the bells and whistles as the more recent releases. However, they are a whole lot wackier and over-the-top with their gameplay mechanics along with its narrative.

This is a third-person action title that takes place five years after the events of Saints Row 2. Within this game, players will follow the Saints street gang that has become a worldwide phenomenon hit. This street gang moves some serious merch and entertainment media for fans to enjoy. While promoting their upcoming film, the Saints end up enduring a bank robbery gone wrong which puts the gang behind bars. Players are given a big overhaul to the classic s Mafia tale which follows a city cab driver that gets picked up in the life of crime when the money turns out too good to pass up.

Then of course you have the third installment which we covered earlier in this list. At any rate, all three of the games are played out in the third-person perspective with missions that involve high-speed chases to brutal gunplay. Hotline Miami was one of the breakout indie titles to come out in This top-down shooter was an intense and brutal action game that was set in Miami in This game keeps up with the same top-down shooter mechanics with the title taking place before the events of the first game and after.

Noire if you enjoy crime titles. The gameplay is similar to the Grand Theft Auto franchise where players are in a third-person perspective and can freely roam the open-world.

An interesting aspect of the L. Noire franchise is the fact that the developers were able to use technology that could capture the motion expressions of the actors.

It was a game that acted out similar to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but here players stepped into the role of law enforcement that was attempting to invade into a criminal organization. Overall, Judgment follows a storyline of a lawyer that most have written off. To climb back on top and get redemption our protagonist Takayuki Yagami begins private detective work in order to investigate the believed corrupt Red Light Distract of Kamurocho.

With that said, this is still a game focused around solving crimes rather than committing them. Ubisoft brought out Watch Dogs 2 in as a means to deliver a new experience featuring the hacking group DedSec.

The game is a means to really improve on the foundation Ubisoft laid out with the original title. With that said, this game is certainly not the title where you can just go in and be a badass. However, we felt that the online component for Grand Theft Auto V deserved a spot on our list. However, there is a new slew of missions, heists, and trouble to get into with friends or again by yourself. I like the stealth approach and they play well. Haven't touched the first one yet, maybe I should.

Yakuza series: Another fan favorite, another franchise I wanted to love, but nowadays I'm a little meh about it. I've only finished 2 great game and 3, but couldn't get through 0 and 7, which I tried recently.

The humor is not for me and I find the gameplay too repetitive. The stories are great, though. Scarface: If you are a fan of the movie, how can you not like it? The Godfather: I fucking loved the first one. Wii version was fun as hell. The racketeering gameplay was super addictive and the story was a great take on the move. Too bad about no Pacino, though. Never played the sequel, apparently it's not good.

Anything else I'm not remembering? I guess there's also obscure stuff like True Crime too, but never played that one. Ryuelli Banned.

Oct 27, 25, Enjoyed all of lot but Yakuza and Sleeping Dogs have had the highest highs for me. JusDoIt Member. Oct 25, 16, South Central Los Angeles. GTA San Andreas is my favorite, by a wide margin. The janky ass Definitive Edition did nothing but solidify that. The game is so damn fun and welcoming, flaws and all. Red Dead 2 is the best, though. JigglesBunny Prophet of Truth Avenger.

In this narrative-based strategy game, players step into the shoes of the police chief who must make difficult choices throughout the game.

Do you sack every black police officer on the force and capitulate to the demands of City Hall and its pandering of racists? Do you let a mobster go if it means saving the life of your best friend and his family? The choice is yours.

You can often find this game as being compared to the cult followed drama supernatural detective televised series Twin Peaks. This was a third-person survival horror game that followed a FBI agent into a small town due to a strange murder case. Players are then introduced to this offbeat town where its clear that supernatural entities are at play. As mentioned, FBI Special Agent Francis York along with his friend Zach begins to investigate the small town in hopes of solving a murder case that may have ties to a drug ring.

Also just as before, the game received some mixed reviews with some truly loving the gameplay and narrative setup. If you feel like diving back into the Deadly Premonition world featuring a younger Francis York Morgan then you can overall expect the same type of gameplay from the initial installment.

Rockstar Games is known for delivering the stellar Grand Theft Auto franchise. These games have been around for ages now and continue to thrive today. While some fans have been waiting on the announcement of a Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games opted to give players something to tide them over. The narrative is intact here, but players are receiving some overhauls in visuals and modern mechanics. Of course, since they are a bit older, they might not have all the bells and whistles as the more recent releases.

This not only includes the remastered game but also the expanded storylines to give more insight to different character perspectives. The video gamen takes the same gameplay mechanics and goals since the franchise first launched. Gamers will witness twin assassins, Jacob and Evie Frye, as they go through the underground organized crime in order to take control of the city from the Templars.

We all saw Heat or we pretend to have seen Heat but have only watched the opening scene of The Dark Knight and thought we could rob banks. We thought we could scheme a way to take massive amounts of money out of a building while wearing masks and telling everyone to keep cool and stay on the ground.
