Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I had previously tried troubleshooter--it found no issues. Again, let me stress that Windows recognizes the device everywhere but in File Explorer. The drivers which are published by Microsoft are up to day, there are no conflicts with the USB controllers, the card reader displays under "Connected Devices" in Windows 10's "Settings" tab, the reader is visible under "Devices and Printers. Uninstalling the USB drivers in totality did nothing.

Windows refuses to see the reader in Explorer. Again, there is no third-party software--the device uses Microsoft's own driver which has not seen a revision since Age rating For all ages.
